As of September 2000, the DOC population had increased 11% from June to 30,491 inmates in their facilities; of this total: 3,232 inmates were from out of state, and 1,571 were in private prisons.

Additionally, 38,453 offenders were under community based supervision and 1,948 were in community programs/centers.
