DOC Offenders (cont.)
DOC has six levels of inmate classification based on the severity of the offense/inmate profile.
The DOC population decreased 4.3% from 1998 to 1999; on average 31 fewer offenders were admitted each month than in the previous year.
A large proportion of the decline from 1998 to 1999 was due to fewer violent crime admissions.
