All inmates are administered the Addiction Severity Index assessment as part of initial reception.
DOC estimates that approximately 80% of the inmate population has a history of substance abuse associated with criminality.
Resources limit program availability and not all offenders are served; currently, the intensive treatment programs only have space for 7% of the inmates in need.
