Mental Health Services
DOC estimates that approximately 10% of the inmate population require mental health services.
DOC employs 119 full-time mental health staff in 28 institutions/centers, including 96 psychologists and 6 psychiatrists.
In addition, 18 contract psychiatrists are available in 19 institutions for contracts of 4-20 hours per week; all mental health services at Sussex I, Sussex II and Fluvanna are privatized.
