Mental Health Screening and Evaluation

• 6 VAC 35-140-430 requires the use of an approved assessment tool upon admission to secure detention to determine the need for mental health assessment, which must then be completed within 24 hours

• § 16.1-248.2 provides that the community services board is responsible for conducting this assessment and shall be compensated by funds appropriate to DJJ for this purpose.
